3 Ways to Relieve Neck Pain
Did you know that approximately 70% of Americans will experience significant neck pain at some point in their lives? Recurring neck pain can affect adults of all ages. Even though neck pain is common, if you are one who is suffering from it, it may seem like there is nothing you can do to get some relief. Neck pain can affect your ability to work, how you sleep and even your personal relationships. The good news? Recurring neck pain can be successfully managed.
Give yourself a break from the pain in your neck. Here are 3 ways to help relieve your neck pain right now.
Take a Break
Whether you are sitting in front of a computer or driving in your car, if you stay in the same position for a long period of time, your neck is strained and can cause pain and stiffness. Whatever it is you are doing, if you are staying in the same position for a while, take a break! Stand up and move around throughout the day to help relieve and prevent neck pain.
Stretch it Out
You can relieve neck pain by stretching it out. Here is one stretch you can try: tilt your head from left to right and hold for 20 seconds on each side. Then, place one hand on top of your head and stretch your neck down towards your shoulder on both sides. Always remember to stretch with smooth and slow movements.
Stand (and sit) Up Straight
Your mother was right when she told you to sit up straight. Your muscles are constantly working to hold your head up and if you aren’t practicing good posture, they will have to work even harder. Practice proper posture while sitting and standing by making sure your shoulders are over your hips and your ears are over your shoulders. Visualize that the top of your head is trying to touch the ceiling to help you lengthen and elongate your neck to get as tall as possible.
